It seems that clicking the "vote as spam" link is a unidirectional transaction and cannot be undone. This is potentially unfortunate.

I acknowledge that is the current design. As I mentioned in the post about the spam system, for this to really matter five people would have to accidentally vote a message as spam.

Anyone else concerned about this?

Well, when one person marks it as spam, everyone sees that someone considers that post to be spam. If it were less visible I'd be less concerned, but it has more impact than just removal of spam.

The intention was that for a post that might seem marginal (eg. just completely irrelevant, and with a link to something offsite that is barely relevant) you might have trouble deciding if you should vote it as spam or not. Seeing that someone else also thinks it is spam may help your decision-making.

Sometimes I look at a post and think "what the heck?". And then when I see someone thinks it is spam I tend to agree with them.

If the spam notice was only displayed to logged-in users who do not own the post that's been flagged, it might be better. It's like being downvoted on Reddit: you're left wondering why.

Changed to do that, if you are not logged in you don't see if messages are considered spam. Also you aren't shown if your message is considered to be spam, even if you are logged in.
