Which version do you have? Early versions waited for a connection to complete (version 1.x) however later ones connect asynchronously, in which case they shouldn't hang.

Possibly the operating system is trying to connect, and has a long time-out before it gives up.

If I ever attempt to open a world in Mush without being connected to the internet, it will lock up and I have to do the ctrl-alt-del thing and end the task and get a connection first.
