Hi

I'm wanting to run MUSH off a flash drive, since I have trouble syncing files between my laptop/desktop. I know there is a prepackaged version, but its v4.43 and we're on 4.51, I don't want to lose all the revisions made since then. Also, I HAVE tried using it but it gives me an error that it can't read to my flash drive to write the changes made to internal world varibles, or something to that extent.

I searched for threads regarding this and found a few but the responses were brief and not very detailed. Would anyone mind shedding a bit of light on this matter? I'd love to MUD on the go since I can't install MUSH on college campus computers.

Thanks,
Forral

Well it *should* work. Recent versions are designed to not use the Registry, and to be portable.

Possibly the problem is in default directory paths or something like that. Can you post the exact error message? Can you save the world file (Ctrl+S)?

Hi Nick, thanks for responding so quickly.

Here is the exact error message, in screenshot form. This occurs after I attempt to save the world file, and it gives a similar message for each and every plugin that is loaded at the time of saving.

Additionally, do you think you could release the latest version in portable form?

Thanks again,
Forral

Ah, the state folder. Sometimes the install does not create it. Go into your MUSHclient install folder -> worlds -> plugins.

Inside the plugins folder create a new folder called "state". Then the plugins should save OK.

As for a portable version, all current versions should be portable - just drag the MUSHclient folder from Program Files onto your USB stick. You may need to go into Global Preferences and change the default directory locations of a few things.

This post may help:

MUSHclient is portable, been using it on my flash drive ever since you migrated away from the registry. So far everything seems to work just fine, but I don't use a lot of scripting with my use.

The only ... quirk, at a loss for a better word, is that after installing on my flash drive there are traces of registry settings. Doesn't bother me, I just use Revo to remove any traces and MUSHclient still works wonderfully afterwords.

Glad to hear it. I think the installer may store the location of where you installed it, that is probably the only thing still written there. This is just for reinstalls and can be safely removed.
