I am trying to create councils in my MUD. I created the elder.council file, filled in the appropriate information there, and added it to the list. It shows up fine, yet, I cannot figure out how to use setcouncil for the life of me.

setcouncil elder.council head Name
setcouncil elder head Name
setcouncil Ring of Elders head Name

.. I just can't figure it out.
Help is much appreciated! :)

You just trying to figure out how to set the different fields?

Try looking at the setcouncil help file... never mind, forgot SMAUG doesn't come with one.

Usage: setcouncil <council> <field> <deity|leader|number1|number2> <player>

Field being one of:
head head2 members board meeting
name filename desc
powers

setcouncil 'full name of council' <field> <option1> <option2>

Head - the council leader
Head2 - co-leader
Members - # of members
Board - council boards vnum
Meeting - Room vnum the council meets in
Name - name of the council
filename - filename of council, ie elder.council, clan.council, etc.
desc - description of council
powers - commands bestowed upon the council

If you still need more help just post again.

Sorry if I was vague, I meant, I can't figure out how to address the council name. If you look at my above post I say:
setcouncil elder.council head Name
setcouncil elder head Name
setcouncil Ring of Elders head Name

the filename is elder.council and the name of the council is Ring of Elders, yet when I try to edit any of the stats, I get a message saying, cannot find council.

try
setcouncil 'Ring of Elders' head Name

the spaces are throwing it off ;-)

also note that Zhamel said essentially the same thing:

setcouncil 'full name of council' <field> <option1> <option2>

.. *sigh*.
The council is now made. It responds to council and shows in the .lst and the firectory. It shows who I made as the head and head2 but the number of members is 0. Why!?

Please save me!

Now you can use to council induct/outcast commands. Named coinduct and cooutcast respectivly. If you manually set the head and head2 in the council you might want to manually adjust the councils members #.

I've set up all the stuff on setcouncil, but nothing shows up or even works. Is it just a coding problem?
