Describe the process you're going through to edit/add things.

It would also be helpful if we knew the download you're using and the platform you're running your server on (Win2k, Cygwin, Linux, ect.)

A common beginner mistake is to edit an existing non-prototype area and type 'savearea'. Sounds logical enough, but to save areas that have already been "loaded" (non-prototype), you use 'foldarea'. Check out the helpfiles on both.

All of them? Or do you have subfolders somewhere?

A useful idea would be to make a directory, eg. c:\smaug, and put the files into there.

You need all the appropriate directories or it won't work. If you can't get it to work run under gdb and set a breakpoint at the save code and see what happens.
