| Hmm, can you retouch the default world a bit? Enable the arrow key history recalling, for one... I'm sure that more than a few people try MUSHClient after zmud, and they get frustrated when they don't see zMud's features there, and uninstall it. It's a shame, because those features DO exists in MC, they're just too new to find them... You could perhaps change the default options to be prettier, or more zMud-like... They're useful, and everyone uses them anyway... |

| Any suggestions about a list of defaults? Without going overboard, just suggest the ones that the default world doesn't have, that you think it should. |

| How about not using Fixedsys as the default world font? (Yes, I know you can change it for new worlds, but first impressions count right?). It's blocky, it's fat, and it's ugly. ;) | Top |

| Strangely enough one of the features I find most attractive about the default settings is the fixed width font. As a builder it is almost critical that I use a fixed width font in order to prevent excessive re-edits to correct border alignments and spacing. |

| Fixed width fonts are essential for mudding, due to heavy ascii art. The default world font is repulsive :p I use Terminal 8 point since it's lean, and nice for even small screens. Also, options that should be the default are:
Up-Down keys traversing history
Auto-repeat command
Spam prevention defaulting to 19 commands
Confirm before replacing typing off
escape deletes typing
save deleted command
auto pause
unpause on send
I know it's a bit much, but hey, it's the way i like it :p |

| Sadly the Terminal is not a ttf, so you are limited to sizes. In fact Windows DOS consoles cheat and borrow Lucida Console for the sizes not in the Terminal font. The fact is that most people from my experience use what might be classed as 'newer' fonts, which means that the characters included in the 127-255 range bear no resemblance to Terminal. This is not a problem if the mud is english, but if you connect to some place that occationally uses foreign letters, then you see a lot of junk when ever some one uses such letters. Unfortunately Lucida Console seems to be the only ttf font that comes close to looking right and then you have to force the 'bold' attribute on to make it readable imho.
Of course, the only thing setting its bold attribute to on does is disable the 'bold' attribute in MXP or ansi. If you don't use MXP then no problem, since I never really comprehended why ANSI 'bold', which on a real terminal 'only' means set the high-bit for color (I.e. white instead of gray, bright red instead of dark, etc.) and not 'make this font thicker'. Its annoying imho and disabling that attribute completely also disables the 'literal' bold sent by MXP unless I am mistaken, which ends up being the same thing as setting the client to use Lucida Console Bold. I am pretty sure other clients don't have this quirky behaviour. I really wish I could find a good high visibility and fixed width TTF though. :p
Anyway, until someone managed to make a TTF that really does look like Terminal with respect to readability, Lucida Console is unfortunately the only real alternative. Ones like Fixedsys and other FON types are not only uglier, but have the same problem as Terminal when selecting a size. :p | Top |

| Personally I dislike Courier which I think looks spindly and ugly, which is why I had FixedSys as the default font, and also because I think you can be pretty certain it is installed.
AFAIK Lucida Console is *not* a default Windows font, but is installed as part of the Internet Explorer install, which is still optional (or is that not true these days?).

| Hmm. Well I suppose it is 'technically' optional, but most standard installs end up puting it on there anyway. lol However I agree. Courier is even worse. The problem is there are only 2 TTF options and 2-3 FON types and the FON fonts can't be set to most sizes. Short of making your own special TTF font and including it in Mushclients install, you are basically screwed. :p A few other clients do include their own font, but these fonts are usually FON types, since they are easier to make and you end up right back where you started with Terminal and Fixedsys. I got so tired of it I created my own FON, but it only include the 12 pt size and seems to confuse Mushclient's font selection menu for some reason when picking the size. | Top |
