Anyone know why exactly the charm affect prevents the mobs progs from triggering? I'm sure it's a safe guard (IE how charm prevents the mob from using mpcommands) but I don't know much more. I'd like to allow charmed mobs to use their progs... but first want to know why it isn't allowed. Anyone have an idea?

Well, maybe a mob is set up to do a specific thing at a specific place ... maybe open a passage? But then if you take that mob, move it around, and then trigger its program, it'll be doing that something but in a new place. That could create loopholes.

If you had a mob that took a bribe and produced an object, that could be abused if you moved the mob right next to a money place. It could have been that it was originally conceived that you'd have to walk long distances.

Another thing is that some mobs might attack people from mobprogs. You might not want the mob to do that if it's charmed.

There are probably other reasons, more or less important depending on what exactly the program does...

Now, all this is kind of moot if you're careful with your mobprogs and all that. Ideally, individual programs would have flags specifying whether or not they're active when the mob is charmed.

Well I wasn't thinking of a prog like that to be used on a charmed mob. Something just where the mob would transform triggered by the pets master.

Well, sure. But if mobs are charmed, and mob progs work, then you have to think about all cases of mobs with progs, where the mob could possibly be charmed. I think that their decision to simply say 'no charmed progs' was to avoid having to be careful about this.

I seem to recall on some mud long ago that you could dominate (ie charm) mobs and have them withdraw from the economy. This is -very- bad.

You never know what players will do :P
