Alright I've noticed alot of smaugs, and alot of dbsc when they crash they start back up. I was wondering how this happens? What causes it to start up again?

Just the startup script I think. It loops on running Smaug, and every time the program completes (ie. crashes or shuts down at the end of the day) the script starts it up again.

You could also use nohup on the startup script to keep it running.

To clarify: nohup prevents the startup script from exiting when you log out.

Using & starts the process in the background (or something of that sort).

Not all systems seem to require the use of nohup to keep things running when you log out. I do notice it being necessary on a lot of Redhat based systems like Fedora.
The startup script will try and launch the program if it crashes out for some reason. However it will not keep things running in most cases if the mud is deliberately shutdown. The startup script only loops if a "shutdown" file is not present. |
