I'm a new Linux user, and as I couldn't find a MU* client I liked for it, I gave my old Mushclient a try. (I have been using it since 98, paid in 98 too, best $20 I spent).
I was using 3.85 with no problems at all. Ran wonderfully. But apon trying 4.02, it would crash every time I tried to open a world file. I went and made a new world file, and that appears to open just fine. I've tried editing my old world files to remove plugins, to see if that was the problem, but that hasn't helped. At this moment I'm not sure what else to do other they recreate all the world files.
Running Kubuntu 7.04 and whatever version of WINE that came with it.

You probably have to change scripting languages. I had some issues when I tried to load any non-Lua scripts in through plugins. I have 4.01 running fine on MEPIS (I think now it's a derivative of Ubuntu) and wine-0.3.34 from winehq. http://www.winehq.com/site/download-deb for the most current version, since most distros are usually a few stable releases behind Wine.

I guess I'll try the 4.02 one as well and see if that works for me. If not, it might be due to the new colour codes being put in. Also, I forgot to run it from an xterm or Konsole window to see the error messages that popped up. You might want to do the same, or have MUSHclient run with "wine mushclient.exe 2> ~/mclog.txt" to dump the errors into a log for you.

It is much easier to fight for one's ideals than to live up to them.

It might be. I saw both lia and vb script in the xmls when I was recreating the world files. I just remade them all and everything's running fine, plugins and all. Might be a word of warning to those who are going to upgrade.

I suggest using the /wine option when executing MUSHclient. This seems to eliminate crashes when opening the notepad window (which it does on a configuration error).

eg.

$ wine mushclient.exe /wine

I had the same problem. I was hoping it was just me, as recreating all my world files will be ... a pain. But if it's a problem with the way the worlds changed with the version number, then I guess I'll just have to deal with it.

The distro as well as the version of Wine seems to change results greatly. After switching from Wine 0.9.36 on MEPIS to using Wine 0.9.36 on Gentoo, I haven't had anywhere near as many problems with non-Lua scripts. The Jscript dll seems to load much better, but I haven't tried to muck about with vbscripting yet.
