| Hi there, i was just wondering what is banned when a aite is banned. On a particular MUD we have a certain manager that blocks people too fast, without talking to them first. I'm just wondering if there is any way to unblock a persons computer so that they can re-access the MUD they want, and enjoy the game on it as well.
Any reply would be greatly appreciated

| Depending on the MUD, they probably maintain a list of IP addresses that they refuse to accept connections from.
So you can't really unblock your own computer - that decision is made at the MUD's end.
If they require registration they might have a list of email addresses they don't accept registrations from.
If you wanted to negotiate with them I would suggest going to someone else's house (which would have a different address), logging onto the MUD, and politely request that they unban you, perhaps giving reasons why you thought the ban was unjust.
Another approach would be to find an Internet Cafe, or similar sort of place, which would probably not be banned.
There is a possibility that they have banned a range of addresses, because some ISPs allocate addresses out of a pool. So, going to your next-door neighbour might not work. |

The main issue with things like AOL is that it is hard to siteban someone who is seriously violating the rules while allowing the well behaved other 99% of the people logging in to play. AOL has (or at least used to have) the largest number of IP addresses to rotate through, and when you connect, it isn't static, so trying to pinpoint a single person is highly problematic at best. |

However, they do look dimly on people that do this "without" making it clear that they are going to do so, and otherwise proving themselves likely to be decent players to start with. | | Top |

| The only solution to this problem is to locate a working full anonymity socks 4 or 5 proxy through which to connect.
I have had to use that method to log on multiple accounts on a mud server I play. I am not advocating breaking the rules, BUT if an unfair IP ban is in effect, this might allow more people to play.
