I can understand that Nick.. It might actually be a good idea at some point to consider changing from a 'try forever' model to something that has a time out and a bit better safeguards. As much as it will make people scream..., it may prove necessary. Unfortunately, the nag system has proven to be not quite so useful to you. It doesn't nag when you need it most, while people are using it.

Then again, you could always spam them every few minutes with a nag line too... Might be just annoying enough to get some of them to pay up. With registrations where they are, you need to do something. :(

I agree that you might need a slightly more annoying nag line. A line every few minutes as Shadowfyr suggested would work nicely. Or a message box that has a time-delay, shorter but similar to the entry screen. A little more drastic would be to only allow e.g. 20 minutes of connection at a time. I've thought for a while that you're a little too generous, and many people don't really "need" to register. To be frank the only reason I did was out of principle, not out of any particular annoyance from the lag - I would use that time to e.g. check email, get some water or whatever.

I think if you make the nag more annoying you just push more people than already are to finding a crack site.

I think it's like Nick said. If someone wants to buy the program, they'll buy it, even if it has no nagscreen. If they don't, you could put all the nags you want in it, it'd just turn them away from it or to a crack site...

You're leaving out all the people who neither buy nor crack it; those who are honest enough to not crack it, but not bothered enough by the nag screen to buy it.
