Installed the latest batch of Windows 7 x64 updates, and now I get 'SQL error on statement: "DROP TABLE IF EXISTS contol;CREATE TABLE control (name) VARCHAR(10) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,value INT NOT NULL );" disk I/O error

My raid 1+0 is fine.

Sounds like you don't have write access to where you installed it.

Try installing (or moving it) to some directory you can write to, like Documents (My Documents).

It was fixed with a little windows magic. Thanks for getting to me on this! I've been having some permissions issues which I can't nail down, but before that update they never messed with my (beloved, 12-years-of-use) MUSHclient.

If anyone gets this error, set the shortcut to run in Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode.

If it's pinned to the taskbar, you'll need to shift-rightclick with the application CLOSED to get to the properties menu, where you can set this. Compatibility mode information is not preserved when you pin a shortcut to this taskbar. Just FYI.

Hello. I am trying to Install 4.84 on a Windows 98 system but I receive the following error message:-

Can't open global preferences database at C:\My Documents\MUSHclient\mushclient_prefs.sqlite
(Error was "disk I/O error")
Check you have write-access to that file.

I have tried installing the program in different folders including the default "Program Files" folder and, as you can see, "My Documents" folder, all with the same result. Obviously I have write-access to the "My Documents" folder.

Thanks for your help.

Not sure, try the Desktop.

Windows 98 is pretty old now. But in the past there would have been thousands of people who used MUSHclient under it.

14 years is absolutely ancient for an OS.

The same error message appears with the folder on the desktop.

Does that file exist? What are its permissions?

Yes, the file does exist.

It is not read-only, not hidden, but is an archive. I tried removing archive, but the same result.

Don't know, sorry. You could try an earlier version of MUSHclient, but I've been using the same compiler for years.

I downloaded 3.84 from this website - and it works!

:-)

I want to play Aardwolf, and it loads and plays, but I wonder if there is a version of MUSHclient that includes the extra stuff customized for Aardwolf like the windows for the map, chat & health? Thanks.

I strongly doubt that such an old version would, because that predates miniwindows.

Miniwindows first appeared in version 4.34 and there would have been some bug fixes after that.

The Aardwolf package won't work properly in Windows 98 anyway because it uses features from LuaJIT and I can't compile that for anything before XP. Blame Microsoft for arbitrarily dropping compilation compatibility in their development products. :(
