Anyone know where i can get a debugged version of the SWR 1.0 code? It can be debugged or almost all debugged. I am just looking for it since i am not that great of a coder yet.

Whilst I'm not sure, I believe swrip is more stable than the stock swr. available at http://swrip.betterbox.net

How does SWRip compare/contrast to SWR-FotE:FUSS?

I am brand new to coding. I download both and just browsed through the files. They seem quite different. SWR-FotE:FUSS seemed to have more planets and stock data to work with and claims to have much improved space coding.

Thoughts, impressions?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for snippets or things to add right away to stock SWR:FUSS, SWRip, or SWR-FotE:FUSS codebases?

Thanks alot!

Go with SWR:FUSS is my recommendation. FotE is ridden with bugs that only compound the SWR problems. I think starting with SWR:FUSS is the way to go, as it has all the smaug bugs mostly picked out, the better color code, and a few SWR bugs, like the score bug. It also comes with I3, I beleive, but if you don't want it, disable it in the makefile.

I personally started from stock SWR1.0, and did the bugs myself, but as of now I do not know of anywhere that has any lists of SWR only bugs. I know that append_to_file didn't close the files, but I might be putting together a stock bug list.

Either way, choice is your, FotE has some added features, but its far too picky for my tastes.

I will probably compile (or try to) all three seperately and boot each of them up atleast once.

SWRip 1.01 or whatever was just posted a week ago, so I imagine it is recent and hopefully bug free. The SWRFotE on this site is listed as a FUSS release, so I'm hoping the bugs have been taken out.

What exactly does i3 do exactly?

The SMAUG bugs have been taken out, but the deep FotE ones aren't. There are several list all over the place that list whats wrong with it, and very few fixes to them.

I3 is a protocol for communication between muds. If you look in the I3 files, you can check the homepage for more info.

Yes, I would say start from SWR:FUSS. Thats what I started from, and its definitely 100% better then starting from stock swr 1.0, especially if you are a new coder.

After going through SWRip, and SWFotE, I think I'm going with the latter.

SWFotE has an active forum where people post tons of code and snippets (much like this forum) and quickly resolve bugs and issues. They've put out a 1.1 FUSS which compiled immediately with 0 errors and 0 warnings.

The team supports the codebase rather well. There are quite a few changes and customizations from SWR, but I seem pretty happy with them. If someone wanted a more stock version you could go with SWR, but SWFotE is just much more flushed out in the space system, force system etc.

You should keep in mind that while SWFOTE has an active support forum, they've indicated in the past that supporting the FUSS version is not something they want to do. I can offer what assistance I am able, but since it's not my usual codebase that assistance would be limited to mostly the Smaug fixes and the color system.

Fote probably needs a forum because they have more than one coder that worked on it... I have an e-mail address ( Darrik~swrip.net ). If one uses my codebase ( 1.0.1 removes the three bugs in the release and the two backdoors ( Childish whim of mine, I know ) ), e-mail me with any bugs and questions one has. I am always happy to help, even to the point of logging in and assisting the person to get started... and no, you dont need to keep my character file around. I don't even remember the password I used for it :).
