| Good Morning,
I downloaded today the stable version of mushclient 5.06
I used wizard plugin to get msp.xml
I put mud sound folder in downloads.
I used the computer path copy to do set_msp_path
"C:\Users\sarata\Downloads\sound"
It points exactly at the sound files according to the echo.
I have windows 11, I assume the sound drivers are better than direct x but I downloaded them anyway.
But I only hear the error beep message.
Thank you! | Top |

| Ok, I tried for a few days now and can't get it working.
Not sure what is different now, followed the instructions from the other post.
Installed msp_lua and sound_file_redirector put my sound files in
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MUSHclient\sounds"
I get no sounds.
I've tried using set_msp_path to that location it still doesn't play sounds, but it says msp path is "C:\Program Files (x86)\MUSHclient\sounds".
Also something odd has happened
I have installed MUSHclient in a few different places trying to get it to work C:MUSH, C:ProgramFiles, etc. I unisintalled those versions however now when I save world it doesn't show up at C:Program Files (x86 ) MUSHclient worlds
Maybe uninstall doesn't remove the database and it still points world to place where MUSHclient was previously? | Top |

MUSHclient will not work correctly from Program Files or any other directory protected by Windows's access control mechanism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control), because MUSHclient writes files to its own directory, and that gets blocked by the system (I suppose unless you always run MUSHclient as Administrator).
There have been a number of threads scattered around the forum about this over the years. See e.g. https://www.mushclient.com/forum/bbshowpost.php?bbsubject_id=14704
We generally recommend installing somewhere that isn't locked down, like your Desktop or My Documents. |

| Anything else I can check? I must be missing something that maybe changed like windows security issues. Because msp used to work fine on mush client. It still works with zmud. | Top |

| Whew! I'm glad you got it working. These file protection issues have been a plague for years. |
