In the SMAUG distribution (not the Area Editor distribution) there is a commands.dat file in the system folder.

SMAUG distribution? I don't really understand...I am really new. Where do I get the "smaug distribution"?

Ok I figured out where the SMAUG distribution was. I successfully located and loaded the commands.dat file. But now when I use the walkthrough feature on Area Editor even when I try to use the commands such as say and help, none of them work. How do I enable the commands?

If you press F1 when using the walkthrough a help screen will open.

It explains that the only commands you can use here are:

  • a direction, eg. NORTH, SOUTH
  • GOTO vnum, eg. GOTO 24000
  • LOOK thing, eg. LOOK guard

It does not attempt to implement other things like SAY, after all you are only walking through the area to test your descriptions. If you want to do more than that start up the server in another window and use the game itself.
