| Greetings would-be coder!
Our mud is in the process of porting to a new CodeBase. We currently run on Ack, a C/C++ Merc/Diku variant which we were finding a little too restrictive. The CodeBase that we are moving to is Java based and one of the few stable, feature-rich CodeBases using that language.
The theme right now is pretty hazy, just generic medeival, but we're in the process of creating a richer world history to match the rebuilt cities (we're at about 70,000 rooms and climbing!). What our goal is is to have RP hard not to do, rather than worry about it. For example, the engine actually allows for players to purchase rooms and build homes, mine/gather resources and make items, etc..
Some of the features already in the system:
- Descriptive alignment based combat system with race-based natural weapons, ranged weapons and spells, and mounted combat.
- Contageons and diseases
- Area based climates, seasons, and weather changes that affect game play
- Numerous terrain types, including underwater areas requiring spells to breath; water rooms requiring swimming abilities; air rooms with gravity, so items and mobs can fall
- Customizable system of crime and punishment
- Mud wide skys and oceans
- Players and MOBs can teach each other their skills
- Robust quest system that can be triggered by player actions, time/timed-intervals, or admins.
Some of the projects currently underway:
- creating a unique multiclass character system designed for maximum character longevity and replay value, as well as character development and player interactivity. (Nearly 3000 spells, skills, prayers, songs, and other abilities currently planned)
- creating a unique ongoing system of territorial warfare that can yield great rewards
- creating additional functionality to the wide engine for better web site integration (including a planned interactive player content driven history system)
The learning curve for the system can be a little daunting, just because it's rather amazing, but we are prepared to build skill and confidence in tackling some of the larger projects. Some experience with Java is about all I had going into this as well, so that's not a major sticking point. What I'm hoping for is people who enjoy muds and would like to put their Java skills into practice (or improve them). This is a noncommercial mud, so there is no compensation offered.

PS. I hope this is the right forum, I saw no seperate forum for adverts for staff. | | Top |
