I can't seem to connect to any muds with Mushclient or zMud, but when I use telnet they all work fine. Is there something I done wrong?

Make sure any firewall or software is allowing that program to access the internet.

I don't think there's any firewalls running. Do I need to open some ports?

If it's working via telnet, then ports shouldn't matter. What error are you getting?

Some firewalls (ZoneAlarm springs to mind) block programs rather than ports. If you get some message like "MUSHclient is attempting to connect to the Internet - do you want to permit that?" and you answer "no", then you are likely to get such a response.

Try going into the Security Centre for XP and seeing if you have blocking set up.
