| silly question!
Sometimes I like to play on telnet for aesthetic reasons, er, like when I'm not planning on doing any fighting or I'm just logging on to check my messages. Anyways, when I play telnet, I usually play it fullscreen. The words are perfectly "wrapped" to fit the whole screen - I love it. It has something to do with "raster fonts" I think, but to be honest, I don't have a clue. I've tried to duplicate the effect on MUSH, but I haven't had any luck. Can I duplicate the effect? Or at least get something similar? If anyone knows what I'm talking about or thinks they can help me, please post. | | Top |

| Umm. Its called "fixed width fonts". And the answer is yes and no. Fixedsys is the only Windows font that correctly does this, but its a) not true type, so can't be rescaled to a size "in between" the ones already in the font and b) some characters are in the wrong order, as far as every other font is concerned. The DOS/Console window in Windows actually cheats and uses Lucida Console to "fill in" the in between sizes not in the Fixedsys font, but you can tell when it changes from one to the other by how the text becomes "thicker" or "thinner" as you change sizes. Mushclient doesn't support such translation natively, and to make it look right you almost have to "Bold" the characters too, which messes with Mushclient's incorrect interpretation of ANSI Bold as both "high color" and "bold font", of which its should technically only do the first one.
Unfortunately, Mushclient just wasn't made to be a pure Telnet client, and none of the modern fonts installed on Windows where designed to be used in the type of client that does pure Telnet. | | Top |

| I've always used monospaced fonts in MUSH...consolas, fixedsys, lucidia console, etc. I think what I'm trying to is use a raster font? I don't think Fixedsys is one. Anyways, I've tried about everything you can imagine in terms of box combinations in the output window.

This is what I want, specifically: monospaced fonts that wrap to fit the entire window, whether it be fullscreen or anything else. Have you done (or can you do personally) something similar? *shrug*

| Is this a MUSH or similar? Most SMAUG-like MUDs wrap at the server end.
What you want, I gather, is for a fixed width font to go to the window edge, and then wrap? That should work OK. Set up the window the size you want, then go into world configuration -> Output, and click on "Adjust width to size". That will calculate how many columns (characters) you can fit into the window at your selected font size. From then on it should wrap at that column. Is that what you mean? |

Now all I have to do is adjust the font somehow? I'm having trouble optimizing so I have a good size/output ratio. Er, like If I buff up the size of the font the less if I'm reading per line if that makes any sense.

| When you are using full-screen telnet, how wide is it? That is, do the paragraphs wrap other than in the screen dump you just showed?
Judging by that, this is a MUD that wraps for you. There may be a configuration option on the MUD to turn that off (line width or something). |

| The paragraphs are perfectly huge. Like one paragraph will wrap perfectly from side of the screen to the other (also a good sized paragraph will take up like 30-40% of the screen - but it's so perfectly spaced). Under properties, the screen buffer size is 80w 300h, and the window size is 80w by 50h. It says the font is 5x12 "raster fonts"... Although I think it all changes when it's full screen.
Anyways, after much digging, I found an obscure command that does what you said. (config wrapwidth 0) It's great! Thanks for the tip :) | | Top |
