On the Open World menu, the World files are listed and accessible, as they are supposed to be. However, if I go to their location using File Explorer, they are not shown, even if I enable hidden files and hidden system files to be shown. HOW THE HECK!?!?

It's to do with the way Windows works these days. Install into some non protected location, like Documents and the problem should go away.

I mainly want to know how this is happening, not how to fix it.

How it's happening is Microsoft did retarded things with the file system in Win 7/8 and there's nothing Nick can do to change how it behaves beyond recommending you change your install directory to something that your OS isn't trying to protect.

You know, when I saw (fairly) recent reports about files not being where they appeared to be I thought: "they did what?".

Search online for "windows virtual store" and you'll find that information.
