| I'm assuming you are an owner of the object you are trying to remove, so my question would be, are you waiting around long enough for the item to be purged from the system? I've @destroy'd objects before that took up to 20 minutes to actually be purged from the system. I think there is a command that immediately removes items waiting for a purge but I'm not sure.
