I've played a lot of muds, but I must say my favorite is
RoninMUD! It allows multi-play for up to three characters per person, and the code is excellent!
It's diku, so a lot of hack and slash, with a bunch of auto-quests and immortal run quests to boot.

Drop in and give it a try sometime!
