i followed the exact instructions for d/ling cygwin of this site, the one where it lays out the 20some steps. Then i went to do the example of how to use cygwin as shown on this site as well. And when i got to the line that says type make i got this

bash: make: command not found

any ideas about why it wouldnt work? also the makefile.cygwin wasnt there originally that the example on this site talks about and smaug1.4 files are there that arent on the example from this site.

i checked the help list of commands for something that looked like make, build, or compile, rebuild etc., and didnt see anything along those lines.

It means you didn't get the make package. You need to get those packages.
