| If anyone would like to have their own mud, but doesn't
have a good connection or server, I am willing to host
on mine. I have a fast DSL and a great, new server. G3
@ 300!!! This will ALWAYS be up, because I also host
my e-mail, and I really don't want to miss any. All I ask
is to share the Imp status. You can have full access to
all the files on the mud, through ssh and sftp. | Top |

| Ok, this might seem like a silly question, but needs to be asked. Does this include smaug based since smaug is a derivative of rom? If so, then I just might take it up with my admin staff and see what they think of the idea. | Top |

| Two problems with that request.
1. Hosting on my own machine meens a change in ip address everytime.
2. Constant changes/additions to code between scheduled uptime.
Right now we're all still useing stock areas, races, classes, and eq. It isn't yet up to snuff. I was just asking in case we start looking for a permanent home once its ready. As of yet, we don't have a public opening date for ConvergenceMud. If your offer still stands (once you've seen what we have and you like what you see that is), we will discuss it as a group. Hopefully, my friend with the nix box will start us out with a temp shell to work online when we need to, and maybe allow some players. Even though he said his server isn't exactly stable. We'll contact you once we're ready. | Top |

| I had just wanted to see what you had, not host on your
machine. I would be willing to provide a permanent
home, either when the mud is ready to go, or I would
also give you a stable place to develop it. If you want to
check out the server, there's another game running at
mud.tossell.net:9000. You could also map another
name, ex. convergencemud.com, to my address. | Top |

| Wow, like what I see so far. I also talked it over with my admin staff, and they liked the deal also. The only thing is, our codebase will not be ready for a permanent server for at least another two weeks or so. Give or take a week depending on how fast we can get things working. We'll send you a message once we're done :) | Top |

| One option you may also wish to consider, since you stated you have a dynamic ip address, is to still host it on your computer, but use a service that gives you a dns name (i.e. aethiamud.myftp.org) and automatically updates your ip whenever it changes. I use a free service called no-ip (www.no-ip.com) which does just that.
I don't mean to knock on your remote hosting thing or anything, but hosting on your own computer is always best, when it is possible. I use broadband internet, which is a lot faster than dsl. They do use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) servers usually, so my ip may change, tho it hasn't for months since ExciteAtHome went belly-up. But with that no-ip thing running, it works ok. Once I get my aethiamud.org domain name pointed to no-ip (costs an arm and a leg tho), it'll be perfect.
Dunno; that's just what I'd suggest. Costs a little money for the broadband internet, but not much more than what you're already having to pay for dialup (I assume that's what you're using), unless of course you have one of those free isps like nocharge or something.
I'm just trying to help is all; direct local file access has its advantages :) | Top |

| Hi,
Yeah, you could do that...
I need to replace a router and firewall, and need a couple weeks anyway. | Top |
