| At first I was like "Oh cool, another mud gets an overhead map plugin!"
And then I was like "that screenshot looks familiar."
And then I was like "Wait, I know this code."
So it looks like your plugin is just http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=8816 with a font size change and a credit grab. That's...disingenuous.
Also that page specifically says "It uses telnet negotation, so you also need this file: http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/plugins/Aardwolf/telnet_options.lua "
But you neither link to that file nor remove the sections from the original Aardwolf plugin that use it.
I don't believe that your posted DoT modifications or instructions will be sufficient.
Does Dawn of Time use Aardwolf SB 102 telopts? I don't see any mention of it in their change logs. You also don't mention that the Aardwolf overhead map specifically uses <MAPSTART> and <MAPEND> to wrap its map, as indicated in the plugin. Your DoT mod doesn't mention that at all. |

Quote: To be honest, the community there is completely dead
That's unfortunate and sad to hear.
Quote: If the problem is the xml file, I'll remove that from the post
There are two issues here, one about actually doing the thing you set out to do and one about being a good community citizen, and you haven't addressed either of them.
- From a purely technical perspective, the plugin as posted requires another lua file that you didn't link to which makes server calls that your server doesn't support, and then on top of that the plugin requires output in a specific format that your server mod doesn't produce.
- From a purely non-technical perspective, I think it's gauche to change the author field on the plugin without meaningfully modifying it and without giving credit elsewhere.
Your new blog post update also completely misconstrues the nature of this thread.
Quote: I was hoping to eventually have a single file with many plugins, alias, triggers and scripts specifically for LoO but apparently the MUSHclient community frowns on that.
That statement is demonstrably false from even a cursory glance at the forum. We very much want people to develop and expand and adapt MUSHclient and plugin code for their MUDs, and we prove that over and over again by helping everyone who comes here with requests for help.
On a side note, I don't think that anyone will ever actually find the plugin if you link to http://www.mushclient.com/scripts/forum.php?bbtopic_id=121 instead of directly to https://www.mushclient.com/forum/?id=8816 |

Sigh. This feels like all of those times that I email customer support with an issue and then they just don't bother reading what I wrote before answering a question that I didn't ask. |
