I have a problem when trying to compile DoT with Cygwin in that alot of the EXEs with Cygwin come up with internal errors but I'm able to compile Smaug under it with little problems...

Has any one else encountered anything similar?

Alright... Now I have abit more of whats going on.

I'm following the instructions for linux in his getting started section(By him I mean from the DoT webpage) and I have exverything set up and try the configue script and I get internal errors with:

cpp0
cc1plus
collect2

And it's just "this program has performed an illegal operation and well be shut down."

This is a copy of the details of the error in cpp0:

CPP0 caused an invalid page fault in
module CYGWIN1.DLL at 0167:61060962.

Is it a problem with an old parts of cygwin or some sort of problem with the download/installation?

Hope all this helps with someone helping me... DoT looks nice... Well just have to get a new client.

Thank you,
Creep

Okay... maybe I'm going to have to see if I can get help from the Cygwin people but I doubt it... I doubled checked with the package search and reinstalled the package with the three files that are messing up and it's still the same thing...

Maybe something is messed up with my computer I don't know.. thought it might be something with the DoT but it happens the same three problems when compiling anything...

Thanks but I'm now lost... Damn free things...

Yes I have follwed your getting started section...

Acctually very well written and thanks for it.. But there seems to be some sort of problem within Cygwin... or most likely in my computer(Since I reinstalled the packet with the three problem programs and still had the errors)

Just need to find some help with what might be causing cygwin problems...

Creeper

Thank you though for the Getting Started Guide in the first place though.

I just ADDED a cygwin section to the guide. As in there is new content in the guide as of earlier today which may be able to help you.

Care to try it and get back to us?

Cheers,

You are correct and I did check the webpage after I posted and still there may have been some of the knowledge I could have used awhile back I've had cygwin running and compiling before this point just fine. Everything new there I habe worked out myself from questions all over the place...

And although my thinking that my problem was with the DoT files somehow though rather stupid,I still have no clue why they are turning up fatal errors, which I explained above and as I believe you stated someplace that you guide doesn't have everything it is still helpful, despite its lack to cure internal errors in the programs in Cygwin.

Whole get together in one bit, Cygwin is messing up, far as I can tell its not due to poor coding or stupid human error, why its happening I have no clue but again no help found on your getting started webpage...

If I needed that information I would still be asking "How do I compiler?" "Oh Cygwin? How do I get that and what I need in it installed?" Because that is what your webpage basically covers, but thats what it should cover by its name and it does a good job.

Creep, By the way if it sounds like I'm cranky or being rude I mostlikely am. Long day, bad day, alot of things pop up as personally insulting, but I'll get over it.

A possibility with crashes with Cygwin is that you have too little free memory. I have had reports of Cygwin crashing if you have minimal memory (eg. 12 Mb, 16 Mb). Can you confirm how much memory you have on your system? Do you have virtual memory cranked up to a reasonable value? And enough hard disk free for virtual memory to work?

What "package with the three files" did you reinstall?
