| hey all.. I was able to compile the mud on my server fine ( fedora core 2 ) but when I tried it on my home box ( fedora core 4 ) it breaks:
make
make smaug
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/yeahyeah/smaug/dist/src'
gcc -c -O -g3 -Wall -Wuninitialized -DSMAUG act_comm.c
gcc -c -O -g3 -Wall -Wuninitialized -DSMAUG act_info.c
gcc -c -O -g3 -Wall -Wuninitialized -DSMAUG act_move.c
act_move.c:393:15: warning: trigraph ??> ignored, use -trigraphs to enable
act_move.c: In function 'generate_exit':
act_move.c:604: error: invalid lvalue in assignment
make[1]: *** [act_move.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ken/smaug/dist/src'
make: *** [all] Error 2
my FC4 gcc version = 4.0.1 ( the one that breaks )
my FC2 gcc version = 3.3.3
Any ideas what might cause this?
Im trying to compile smaug1.4a_mxp.tgz
Thanks for any help offered.

| | The newer version of gcc is probably more picky. Try showing us the offending lines. |

| | Any reason you're not using FUSS? I know I say this a lot, but I'm positive FUSS will work with this version of gcc. |

| I have Fedora Core 4 installed and am trying to get Smaug (FUSS) up and running. I am getting compiler errors, but wanted to see if maybe I am missing something. Can I upload the compiler output here and ask one of you kind persons to take a look for me?
Thanks, Jim | | Top |

| | Go ahead and post the errors you're getting, but it'd probably be better to ask on the FUSS forums too. |

| Thanks to Zeno for the quick reply. I also downloaded ROM for Windows, built a box last night, and put up Win98SE. The software works great, and I left it running all night. No crashes this morning, although there were some errors that I can address.
I plan to try to install SMAUG for Windows on the box tonight. I did install the Area Editor however, it didn't seem to like the Windows verson of ROM. Lots of errors trying to open the area list. Any ideas what that's all about?
Are areas, items, and mobs the same for Windows ports as the Linux versions?
Is there a list of administrator/head IMM commands somewhere that I can reference?
Thanks to all,
Jim | | Top |

| No idea about Area Editor. Try asking in the Area Editor forum with the errors.
I am not sure about Windows vs linux areas/items, what exactly are you using? WinSmaug?
If you type 'wizhelp' in the MUD, it'll show all Imm commands. As far as a list online, I don't know of one. |

The Area Editor should open area files for Windows and Unix versions of ROM ok, if they are stock versions. If you get "lots of errors" it helps to state what the errors are. |
