As the title states I just formatted my hard drive and installed windows freshly if I download the Aardwolf Custom Mush client it crashes immediately as soon as I open it saying "Mushclient has encountered and error it will not close, send error report, don't send error report"

If I download the MUSH from this website and run it it works fine. If I download the MUSH from the website and copy my world file over from my backed up MUSH folder it crashes immediately with the same message. Any ideas?

Could you be a little more precise about that?

Line 18: Plugin requires MUSHclient version 4.29 or above (problem in this file)

thats the version for the aardwolf custom mushclient you can find the client here but if you try it save it to a different folder it will overwrite your current settings if you put it in your current mush folder. I was using this which I had customized the plugins and settings for before I formatted with no problems now it just instantly crashes

Did you see the FAQ point that says that the publicly available downloads lag behind the most current versions? You should try downloading the latest version from here:

The problem is the Custom Mushclient is technically a 'hacked' version by Lasher and Nick Gammon to add in new functionalities and have it auto configure itself.

That being said I downloaded the most recent and it crashes in the same manner I open it up the splash screen appears then I get "MUSHClient has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Theres some reason why it's crashing it's not a version issue.

I installed version 4.29 just for sake of argument and same thing the only version that I've successfully installed was 4.27 and it doesn't let the scripts work but the point is even if 4.35 or any of the others are installed it wont allow those scripts to work either.

Let's narrow it down. Start with version 4.35, which is the latest and therefore the most stable (at the time of writing this).

You should be able to install that without any crashes. If not, please advise the operating system version you are using.

Then gradually add in the plugins from:

http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/plugins/Aardwolf/

Start with the ones that are needed for most of the others to work:

  • Stats_Detector.xml

  • telnet_options.lua

  • AFK_Detector.xml

  • Create_World_File.xml

  • Playing_Detector.xml

Play for a few minutes with those installed. Then add in, one at a time, the other ones, until the crash happens. Let us know which one caused the crash.

For the Create_World_File.xml plugin to work you probably need to amend the Lua "sandbox" in Global preferences, to trust all plugins.

The client itself is the same as the one available from this site. Lasher does not recompile the source code, and thus the MUSHclient.exe file should be identical.

He has indeed modified the installer to configure the registry a bit for new users, and made an alias that auto-positions the windows. None of this stuff is essential if you are prepared to do a bit manually.

If there is some setting that "crashes instantly" I would like to know what it is so it can be fixed in future versions.

Like I said in that post 4.35 crashes instantly without adding any plugins or anything. From a fresh install of 4.35 it opens the splash screen then gives me that error. I tried 4.29 as well which was the minimum for the plugins

You said "If I download the MUSH from this website and run it it works fine. ".

Given that, I was trying to work forwards to the point where it stopped working fine.

Uninstall MUSHclient, which will clear out any Registry entries that might be affecting things. Then reinstall the copy from this site (4.35). Then gradually start adding things in. For example, start with your Aardwolf world file on its own. Don't bulk copy a whole directory - who knows what part is causing this?

I was about to ask about DirectX.

It must be related to the DirectSound initialization - somehow having no speakers must have caused a problem.

I'll try reproducing that and see if I can fix it.

I'm assuming the problem is lack of a working sound card, not the speakers, right?
