One day when trying to open my world it said "Invalid file type" with no further errors. Upon further investigation it appeared that my .mcl file had become corrupt.

What I've done to alleviate the problem is create a batch file that launches Mushclient.exe and creates a copy of my world (with .bak extension in a different location).

I was thinking this could be something included as part of the client, somewhere that it would back up the world in case one had a problem with the file itself.

Perhaps it doesn't happen commonly enough, however losing all work was highly annoying.

If nothing else hopefully this post will remind those that rely on one file to maybe back that little guy up. :)

I think a while back there was a plugin that saved the current world file under a different name every hour or so (maybe every day).

If not, it would be easy to write.

If you had saved a copy of the "invalid" file it might have been possible to extract some of the data from it, it would depend what was inside. Unless you have a very old version, world files are just text files. You can open them with Notepad or similar, and find the triggers and aliases inside them.

I was able to open the file in a text document but there were only about 30 lines that didn't turn in to garbage.

I suppose I could easily write something in VB that would do it. The batch file works for me for now as I use it to launch my curing system at the same time.

Either way I appreciate the response.

Thanks Nick.

You may want to do a disk cleanup. Sounds like something got corrupted.
