I love this code :)

I have a question:

Where do I find all the areas for the code DoT?
The code has maps, recall areas and so forth. where can I get it.

Thanks
Kos

Do you mean other than the 49 areas that come with the download? DoT will import ROM areas you know. :)

Glad you are enjoying the code Kos.

I am going to be shortly releasing the complete area set in a single zip/tgz.

This will occur after the 1.69q release which will happen shortly for a few reasons:

  1. I want to do a few minor tweaks to the area set before releasing.
  2. Dawn1.69q is a significant release, in that the colour code character is being changed internally from { to `...
the reason for this is that the characters { and } are commonly used in scripting languages. It is my intension to embed full blown scripting language into DoT in the future.
  3. Because the use of ` as the colour code within area files is the way of dawn's future, I don't want to publically release a version using {, only having to release one using ` a few weeks later.

Having said all that, I am happy to email you the set of 49 areas that Nick mentioned in the short term. Send me an email and we can sort something out.

Regarding the colour code change, I have just completed the code which converts all areas, helps, player files, clans and gamesettings on first time read in. So it will require no additional work for those using { in areas prior to the 1.69q release.

Yes I do love the concepts of DoT. If you do send me the 49 areas and later come out with the new actions you want to implement, can I still convert the areas easily? Also I wanted to ask about remorting. I looked at the code and how do I implement remorting, is there a field that you have to set? Also I am working on a win98 platform with C++ 6.0 and if I want to convert this to another platform is that easily done? Reason being is that when I am ready to lanch this MUD to the public most use LINUX or a UNIX base OS.

I also want to say that DoT is a revolutionary MUD that will change how muds are made. I want to say you and the crew have done a wonderful job.

Regarding the remort question, I have posted a bit on that as:Remort within DoT

DoT has been written to move between Win32 and Unix with no modifications to any of the files it uses. This encludes passwords within player files, they are handled using code within the game (ey_crypt) - not a unix specific library function.

The area files Kalahn mentioned can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.gammon.com.au/dot/Area.zip

However be aware of the changes he is making to the colour coding. It might be best to wait for the official release, however if you want to just 'try it out' use the ones above.
