Brand new and rather foolish

Ok, I'm a totally new guy to the idea of making a new mud, though I have been building for a few years. People tend not to want to let other practice coding on their muds and to this end I've decided to build/ compile/ construct/ my own.

However. I know nothing. Could someone PLEASE give me a step by step guide, including decent compiler programs for windows (ME). I have downloaded cygwin before but it gave me major problems.

Also, a non- buggy SWR sourcecode address would be gratefully appreciated.

Cheers.

Take a look at:

Also, Cygwin can be made to work. Search the forum here for your problem - most of them have been covered before.

Ok,

So, I downloaded Cygwin, and the source. Reading the helpfile on this site was very.... helpful, so I was feeling good.

Unfortunatly, for some reason, my Cygwin program doesn't know the command "make", which is rather annoying. Could anyone help here? Why doesn't it know this, rather essential, word, and how do I make it understand?

Cheers.
