PHP Help - String replacements

As you might guess, that's what an emoticon tag looks like in the ikonboard forum software. They are different for each one, so the tag for a smile is different from a tag for a sad face, and so forth.

What I'd like to know is how to go about looking for the comment part that the board software uses, and remove that to the end of the comment termination where "endemo" is at. This would be a very much appreciated thing to have since the URL will vary widely and everything from the beginning tag to the ending tag needs to go.

For the curious, this is for a forum convertor I'm rewriting :)

Just thought I'd mention that I did figure out the solution to the problem I was having. Apparently the order in which the statements mattered somehow.

In any case, the forum convertor seems to be working well so far. The Smaugfuss forums converted flawlessly from what I can tell :)
