OK heres the deal.
I am the same newbie programmer who posted on compiling the rom server...
I have followed Nick Gammon's step by step for Cygwin... and managed to compile the rom server. (I am using firstmud 4.3)
I have everything done.... but when i run rom.exe, i get:
:: [*****] BUG: word last_copyover not found.
What in the name of god is going on?
Please please please help me!!
What file is it reading at the time? Sounds like you might have a configuration directive that is not recognised.
This is what i get when running rom.exe:
Dec 15 08:35:46 :: Loading mud data...
:: [*****] BUG: word last_copyover not found
Then command prompt pauses for about 3 seconds, as though trying to read something, then gives the directory again, and returns to normal.
I dont know what file its trying to read... besides rom.exe. I checked my makefile from when i compiled the rom executable, but it appeared normal...
It can't be that hard to find. Go into the area directory, and scan for the word "last_copyover" (eg. using grep). Then try the system directory. That at least will give you the file name.
Wow, thanks, i found last_copyover, its in mud.dat. (Why the hell didn't I look there first...)
So... does that mean that rom.exe is searching in the wrong place for mud.dat or something? I will try moving stuff around.

Ok, thats messed up.
When it looks for last_copyover, it says "loading mud data". If that means reading mud.dat, then why the hell can't it find the word last_copyover when i can see it right there? I'm really stumped here... I desperately need help.
Ok, i found that if i change the line last_copyover in mud.dat to, say, damnthiserror, the same error comes up, with instead: word damnthiserror not found! So this must mean that rom.exe cant find an instance of last_copyover in itself? or another file?
