minimising to system tray

I've tried to use the minimise to system stray feature with MUSHclient 3.50. The icon in the system tray appears, and the task bar entry disappears. However the window itself minimises itself only to the smallest possible state (i.e. title bar that has been reduced in width). Can this display of the window be turned off, so that if I minimise the program only the entry in the system tray remains?

The "minimise to tray" option may need MUSHclient to be closed and restarted to take effect, because of the way it has to hide its main window.

If that doesn't solve it, I have to say it was with reluctance I put in that feature, as it uses features present in recent version of Windows that are non-standard (compared to earlier versinos).

I don't want to have to buy copies of Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP and keep a PC with each version installed, just so I can test every possible combination of operating systems. The cost of doing that would exceed what I receive in Shareware revenues.

I'm sorry, but if an "extra" feature like "minimise to tray", which is not a core part of using a MUD client, does not work I suggest turning the feature off.

Not that Im arguing that nick, but I am running XP and its still there (and yes, I restarted). It minimizes to the bottom corner of the desktop, much like minimizing windows inside of MC. Is that how its intended?

That is known to happen when you set the window not to appear in the taskbar but not hide it when it's minimised. That's what happens in VB, anyway :p I think that hiding the window when minimised solves both problems, since it disappears from the taskbar, at least i seem to remember it does...

Here's what the MUSHclient window looks like after setting it to Tray only, restarting and then minimising it:

By minimising I mean using the left-most button of the three buttons available at the right end of the title bar, i.e. the one with a "_" symbol (the other two are: middle one with two windows and the "x" button to close the window).

I'm not sure whether "hiding" is the same as minimising, so if I'm doing something wrong or could do something else to just have the tray icon and not remainder of the title bar displayed, I'd appreciate any hints.

Hmmm, that doesn't look right. However I don't have XP installed and don't intend to pay for it right now, either. :)

Sorry it took so long to respond, I haven't been able to get to my own forum for half a week, for some reason.

I get the same result on a friend's computer with Windows 2000. And the same result on an old NT 4.0 machine. Can't send screenshots of those, though, (not my computers).

Yes, that is correct, the window is minimized to the left of the desktop, as all windows without a taskbar button do when they are minimized. As I said, the solution is to hide the window when it is minimized. I don't think C++ cannot hide windows.

Hiding in this case means the client does the hiding, rather than the user, right?

Nicks aware of the problem (and aware that it is indeed a bug, or at least a "feature" of MS), thats the important thing. Its nothing on your end that youre doing wrong.
