I want to have a black background and white text for anything that isn't specifically using color code, but when I tried to figure out how to set it up in Mushclient, my general text color is dark blue.

In the ansi colour section, it shows the B as black and the T as gray, or the other option is the background is gray and the text is white, and I'm still getting the dark blue text, no matter which way I choose.

I am completely confused - help? :)

Thank you.

It must be sending colour codes. You can use "debug packets" to confirm this.

Edit Menu -> Debug Packets.

Get a line or two from the MUD then turn it off again as it will slow things down.

Copy and paste a packet here which appears as blue when you expect white.

Hi Nick,

This is what happened in the debug packets window:

Incoming packet: 8 (2 bytes) at Saturday, April 15, 2017, 6:35:47 PM

The remainder of the space is left open, except for a strange circle of stones in one corner of the room that seem to sparkle with magical energy that swirls into the space above.

That first paragraph doesn't look like a packet debug. I should be seeing hex codes on the right, like further on.

I don't know what you mean, I'm sorry - I'm not a code person, I just want to be able to open up the window and have it look like my other mush client does, which is white text on a black background. Oh well, thank you for trying to help me :)

I'm still trying to help you, but you need to help me to help you. :)

This part, that you posted, looks like you somehow truncated it:

That's not 8 bytes, and it isn't in hex.

The words:

The other part of the room features only a simple desk and chair, with neat stacks of paperwork. An ashtray occupies a corner of the desk, and one adorns each of the nightstands as well. The room smells of incense mixed with the darker scent of tobacco, a heady mix to give the room's air its own warmth.

That's what I want to see. Except yours probably has some sort of colour codes inside it.

Hm... am I supposed to open the debug window before or after I log off the mush? The one I sent was in this order:

Opened the world, which automatically logs me on
Opened the debug window
Copied the line of text
Quit the world and closed the window
Pasted the line of text into the debug window

So, the first lines

Incoming packet: 8 (2 bytes) at Saturday, April 15, 2017, 6:35:47 PM

ÿñ ff f1

Were actually when I still had the world window open, before I copied and pasted the text from the room.

You aren't supposed to log off the MUSH at all.

  • Open the packet debug window: Edit Menu -> Debug Packets.
  • Do a LOOK or whatever is needed to see the problem with the wrong colours
  • Turn off the packet debug window: Edit Menu -> Debug Packets
  • Go to the packet debug window, copy everything and paste it here

I need a debug packet of the line(s) in question which show the wrong colours. What you have is just some "heartbeat" because you didn't do anything else.

When I try that, it comes out in the expected colours. What plugins do you have installed?

Template:bug

Please provide a summary of your world configuration:

  • Either use the scripting Immediate window (Ctrl+I) to execute: Debug ("summary")

    or

  • Install the Summary plugin (see "Summary" feature) and type "summary"

Then copy the resulting information from the output window, and paste into a Forum message.

You need version 4.55 onwards of MUSHclient to do this.

Hmm, I can't see any reason for it. Can you give me the address/port of the MUSH please? I'll try it for myself.

The weird thing is, I used MushClient from work before I came to this new job, and it was always white on black, unless there was a color code. And, I never futzed with it, to even personalize it much at all, other than no logging and no echoing.

Thank you so much for trying to help me :)

Hi Nick,

Have you had a chance to figure out what's going on?

Er, no, sorry. I've had a few other distractions recently. I'll try to look into it shortly.
