Hi. Sorry to bother you with another question but I cannot seem to get this problem fixed. I added some color codes into my score dialog. However, now the language that you are speaking does not show up as red anymore. All the languages are just the default color.
Here is the code:
send_to_pager( "&CLanguages&D: ", ch );
for( iLang = 0; lang_array[iLang] != LANG_UNKNOWN; iLang++ )
if( knows_language( ch, lang_array[iLang], ch ) || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && ch->speaks == 0 ) )
{
if( lang_array[iLang] & ch->speaking || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && !ch->speaking ) )
set_pager_color( AT_RED, ch );
send_to_pager( lang_names[iLang], ch );
send_to_pager( " ", ch );
set_pager_color( AT_SCORE, ch );
}
send_to_pager( "\r\n", ch );
You can see at the top that I added a custom color of light blue to the "Languages" text but the languages that follow are all grey instead of the spoken ones being red.
Is there a way to fix this? The only way I've found so far is to remove all color codes and then the spoken languages show up in red again. | | Top |

| Well the first thing I notice when investigating this is that stock SmaugFUSS 1.9 does not work properly. With an unmodified version 1.9, I log into admin and try this:
<24hp 145m 110mv> <#1200>
speak elvish
You now speak elvish.
<24hp 145m 110mv> <#1200>
config +pager
Ok.

Hmm - the word "elvish" is no longer red. But it is going through the same code, right? Continued in next post ... |

I had turned my pager off because I find it annoying. Let me try turning it back on and see what happens. | | Top |

| Yep, now it works as long as you have the pager turned on. If you have it turned off, it doesn't work.
Is there any way to fix it so it shows even if you have the pager turned off? | | Top |

The first part in bold seems to show a whole lot of colour changes, and the second part in bold shows the names of the languages. However the colour changes are in the wrong place.

| As far as I can see from the code the difference is that set_pager_color does a "write_to_pager" however the actual writing of languages does a "send_to_pager".
The difference is that send_to_pager checks if the pager flag is on or not, and if not, writes directly to the player, whereas the write_to_pager batches the message up. This accounts for why things are out of sequence.
I suggest that, unless there is a better idea, you change set_pager_color to do send_to_pager for consistency.
Unless, Samson has a better idea. ;)

| I can't seem to get this to work. :-(
How exactly do I modify the code so that I change set_pager_color to do send_to_pager?
Every time I try, I get compiler errors of invalid conversions from int to const char*. | | Top |

| I always prefer it when you:
- Post your amended code
- Post the error message
These free-form descriptions force us to reproduce the error ourselves by guessing what you have done. |

| This is the code that I edited:
send_to_pager( "Languages: ", ch );
for( iLang = 0; lang_array[iLang] != LANG_UNKNOWN; iLang++ )
if( knows_language( ch, lang_array[iLang], ch ) || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && ch->speaks == 0 ) )
{
if( lang_array[iLang] & ch->speaking || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && !ch->speaking ) )
send_to_pager( AT_ORANGE, ch );
send_to_pager( lang_names[iLang], ch );
send_to_pager( " ", ch );
send_to_pager( AT_SCORE, ch );
}
send_to_pager( "\r\n", ch );
And these are the compiler errors I am getting:
mike@valdor-server:~/smaugfuss/src$ make
make -s smaug
Compiling o/player.o....
player.c: In function ‘void do_score(CHAR_DATA*, char*)’:
player.c:457: error: invalid conversion from ‘int’ to ‘const char*’
player.c:457: error: initializing argument 1 of ‘void send_to_pager(const char*, CHAR_DATA*)’
make[1]: *** [o/player.o] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
I know I'm doing this wrong and I feel like an idiot lol because it seems like it should be an easy solution. | | Top |

| Hmm, that was why I wanted to see it. I was really suggesting fixing the bug - if it is a bug - in set_pager_color.
But let's assume we do it your way. If you look at the code for set_pager_color you see this:
void set_pager_color( short AType, CHAR_DATA * ch )
{
if( !ch || !ch->desc )
return;
if( IS_NPC( ch ) )
return;
write_to_pager( ch->desc, color_str( AType, ch ), 0 );
The colour code (AT_ORANGE in your case) is a short, not a string, where as you are sending strings to send_to_pager, right?
The colour needs to be looked up. One way of doing it would be this:
send_to_pager( "&CLanguages&D: ", ch );
for( iLang = 0; lang_array[iLang] != LANG_UNKNOWN; iLang++ )
if( knows_language( ch, lang_array[iLang], ch ) || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && ch->speaks == 0 ) )
{
if( lang_array[iLang] & ch->speaking || ( IS_NPC( ch ) && !ch->speaking ) )
send_to_pager( color_str( AT_ORANGE, ch ), ch );
send_to_pager( lang_names[iLang], ch );
send_to_pager( " ", ch );
send_to_pager( color_str( AT_SCORE, ch ), ch );
}
send_to_pager( "\r\n", ch );
That compiles, and shows the language in the correct colour. However I found it did not show "Languages:" in colour, so that shows you are fixing one place and not the general problem.

| Ok thanks. So basically it would just be easier to wait until the bug is fixed. :-P
I could always just set it so that the pager cannot be disabled by users and that way I wouldn't run into the color problem. | | Top |

| Now I'm not sure if my last post was 100% correct. Your original post had you showing the word "Languages:" in cyan which was the colour the languages were in anyway. :)
Anyway, my suggested fix to set_pager_color is as follows (line in bold). I'm not sure of the ramifications, perhaps the SmaugFUSS people can comment.
void set_pager_color( short AType, CHAR_DATA * ch )
{
if( !ch || !ch->desc )
return;
if( IS_NPC( ch ) )
return;
send_to_pager(color_str( AType, ch ), ch );
if( !ch->desc )
{
bug( "set_pager_color: NULL descriptor after WTP! CH: %s", ch->name ? ch->name : "Unknown?!?" );
return;
}
ch->desc->pagecolor = ch->colors[AType];
}
With that there your original code (first post) seems to work OK. It is a bit easier to see for me at least if you change the languages line to read:
send_to_pager( "&RLanguages&D: ", ch );

| Ok. I had actually changed the color for the score dialog to grey so it stood out for me lol. I forgot that the default color with no change was light blue.
I will cross-post it over and see what they think. Thanks. | | Top |
