Following on from comments in this thread http://www.gammon.com.au/forum/?id=9322 version 4.41 of MUSHclient improves the "tooltip" support provided.

  • The number of characters which can be displayed has increased from 79 to 999.

  • The tooltips are now shown in a cute "balloon" shape - see image below.

  • You can specify a tooltip "title" which is in bold on a separate line, along with an information icon, by separating the tooltip title from the rest of the tooltip by the tab character (miniwindow hotspots only).

  • Tooltips for lines in the output window now have the title "Line information".

Hell Yeah Nick, that is the little visual update I think will make things a little more usable :)

I am VERY glad you were able to find the provision to make it 999 chars, which is much better than under 80.

This is belated, because I only just upgraded, but... can we please get an option to turn this off?

I can see how it'd be incredibly useful for some things. But for the line info notes, it's very obtrusive. Suddenly, I can't let my mouse pointer hover anywhere in the window anymore or it pops up very noticeably and covers up considerably more text than it used to, which is not what I want when I want line information. All I want that for is to see what time somebody said something, and I don't want it to be more obvious, which all these changes seem to have been designed for.

I'm impressed by the screenshot, though! I haven't often seen the lorem ipsum in English!

I must admit it was starting to get on my nerves too.

To save changing the GUI interface, I've removed the extra line from the tooltip in the output window in version 4.43. It still has the balloon look, but is somewhat smaller.

See how that goes.

You can still use the extra line in miniwindow hotspots, and you can still use the extra characters.

The other thing you could do is make a macro (eg. F5 or something) that toggles the line information on and off. So, you don't see anything at all unless you want to, then hit the key, hover the mouse, and then hit the key again to turn it off.
