Hi, I've been looking at the do_cast function in magic.c for a couple of days now but can't figure out WAIT_STATE. I've fiddled around with it and am trying to make the lag occur in between the start of the cast and end of the cast, instead of after the cast.

So I've sort of modified the code so that we basically have

send_to_char("You start casting.\n\r", ch);
WAIT_STATE(ch, skill->beats);
send_to_char("You stop chanting.\n\r", ch);

but it always ends up with lag occurring even after "You stop chanting". Why does this happen?

I took a look at the vamp part of the code and it uses the add_timer function. What's the difference between using WAIT_STATE and add_timer?

Thanks

There have been heaps of posts about doing a wait, try looking for ones by Kris, he tried it a while back.

The simple answer is that the server cannot "wait" in the middle of its code, if it did the other players would hang.

Thus, your code would send "You start casting." and "You stop chanting" in quick succession.

Look at the other posts for other ideas.
