How did you run it? If the arg is "mudport=4000" it only needs to be a number.

Ran it in gdb with a breakpoint on line 420 in comm.c, it showed the function that went along with the error basicly.

It is odd, i can run it and have that error, run again and not have it and so on.. seems to be a random error... weird.

Try passing a specific port instead of the default:

../src/smaug 4567

Have you tried stock? It could be perhaps your server. I've never seen anything like this.

I don't see how this could have anything to do with it but I think it is my help.are. I installed it in a different location and it worked, i moved over system, player, god, and src and it worked.. then i moved over help.are for the greeting screen and such and it did not.

When I run startup, it doesn't show anything, but typing jobs shows that it is running. When I run smuag, it starts to load up everything, till it gets to initializing sockets. Then it says Init_socket: listen: Invalid argument

I've tried many everything i could think of, including reinstalling cygwin and the mud (smaug18fuss_lua_v1). I've even tried running a different version and get the same thing. I'm kind of new to this, but from what I can figure, it seems maybe the network isn't configed right or something? I've messed around with that, but still get the same thing.

Yeah I'd have to say it's a problem due to that or something. Try Googling for listen: Invalid argument and see if anything there helps.

See if you can print off the argument as well (for listen).
