Ok... I'm a newbie to smaug, so bare with me. Followed Gammon's instructions got smaug 1.4a working on my Mac (10.4), great. But then a builder was messing with area files. And now when I try to start the game I get :

SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist/area Susie$ cd ..
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist Susie$ cd ..
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug Susie$ rm -f *.o smaug *~
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug Susie$ cd dist
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist Susie$ cd src
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist/src Susie$ make
make smaug
make[1]: `smaug' is up to date.
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist/src Susie$ cd ../area
SusieMac:/users/shared/smaug/dist/area Susie$ ../src/smaug

I can't seem to find anything specific about request pipes, which that is where the error is. I find some comments about removing area files until you find the one that's causing the issue... however I removed each area file one at a time and tried to boot and still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!! =o)

Smaug 1.4? I wouldn't really suggest that version, I would highly recommend using SmaugFUSS.

The trouble might not actually be in your areas, it could be in another file. I have taken this cut from the boot up of my server,

Mon Jan 21 08:43:04 2008 :: Making wizlist
Mon Jan 21 08:43:04 2008 :: Initializing random number generator
Mon Jan 21 08:43:04 2008 :: Setting time and weather
Mon Jan 21 08:43:04 2008 :: Assigning gsn's

Take a look through your logs and find out what comes after Making Wizlist, then check the files for that and the wizlist. I think you will find that the error will most likely be in the wizlist file in ./system.

Hope thats helpfull.

Just a guy having a bit of fun. Nothing more, nothing less, I do not need I WIN to feel validated.
