There are currently no decent chat clients available that can be carted about on a USB drive. What sort of effort would be needed to make MUSHclient into such a program?

What kind of chat are you talking about here? MC is a bit ... misplaced for something like instant messaging when you've got things like jabber or mIRC actually designed for such things.

Silly me, I still go to a few muds and mushes and the like, and the raw environs of IRC, while powerful, just don;t do it aright. It seems there are still tens of thousands of MUCK users who would find such a utility a decent effort, and can it be THAT difficult to came MUSHclient into a compact, self-contained package?

I'd love to see it, I'd offer to help if I had the ability, but I can ask, on the best of thousands who'd use it eagerly, since nothing else is available.

Plenty of IRC and terminal emulators, plenty of IM services, plenty of other styles of comm software, but most of those who started on Muds and MUCKS are still seeking something to fill the gap.

You should be able to get MC onto just about any flash drive available for purchase today. In fact, I'd guess you can get MC on just about anything but micro-sd cards available for purchase in the last 5 years. You may lose some scripting support without the associated registry keys but if all you need is chat capability, I'd be surprised if MC can't do that as is.

It already is. Just install it to a USB stick.

We moved away from registry keys ages ago. It should be self-contained on a USB stick, because global settings are stored in a SQLite3 database, in the same directory as the executable.
