| This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but can anyone give me a crash-course in SMAUG? ( I know that lots of people are going to tell me to go play a SMAUG game like RoD)
The only other muds i've ever played were Diku-based, and i am not used to SMAUG (even though its based on Diku, i know). Could someone give me a brief overview of the SMAUG codebase?
Some specific questions i have are -
What is the difference beetween Guilds and Clans, and what are the points of each?
Is this MUD PK by default? Can everyone PK everyone, or is it just clan-fighting-clan?
Where are the default recall locations? Do the change with level, or do they change with something else?
When you die, does your corpse stay where you died for a bit, so you can go get the items?
Also like i said, i would very much appreciate any general information like that, that could help me become better acquainted with the general SMAUG codebase. Thanks very much for your time. | | Top |

| i don't know if people are allowed to post muds through these messages, but escape.wolfpaw.net port 2020 is a really good smaug mud. I have played it off and on for quite awhile now and the imms there are extremely helpful. the head implementor has helped me on some occasions, but i try to not ask him too many questions because he has his own mud to worry about. but if you want to get in depth with a smaug codebase, try that one. or just download the mud yourself and just dive in. you can pretty much do anything. and if you get the code just look through it and it's all pretty laid out simple. i have found the smaug codebase easy to learn and C++ easy to learn as well. although i don't consider myself very good, but i can do what i need to do. so my advice is to just jump in, log onto your mud with an immortal and advance another player and give him some eq and try everything out. you can comment out all the pk stuff in the code if you want a pk mud, because smaug has alot of anti pk stuff built into it. but a few comments here and there takes care of that though. best advice is to jump in and swim
