| Alright, I recently got a [broken] laptop for free, and recently fixed everything except for the modem. So I downloaded the new MUSHclient version on my XP, put it on a floppy, and stuck it in my laptop. I went to open mushclient345.exe and it gave me an illegal operation error with the title being "<unknown>":
<UNKNOWN> caused an exception c0000006H in module <unknown> at 0000:bff85a5d
Etc...
So I click close and it also gives me this:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
I've used floppy disc's before on the laptop, and it didn't have any errors... Just this. A permission error maybe? I have no idea about users on Win98.
My laptop computer specs are at http://fredrik.homelinux.org/Zeno/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18
I'm going to keep trying to get this to work, along with fixing the stupid modem. Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks. |

| Sounds strange. Try another copy? The size of the installer is close to what you can fit on a floppy, make sure the number of bytes is correct (1,471,070 bytes for version 3.47). |

| Yeah, it barely fit on the floppy. Alright, I'll try another copy through my other XP...
[EDIT] Whee, fixed my modem. Damn missing drivers.
[EDIT2] Actually trying a new copy of the installer worked I think. Its installing now. Thanks
[EDIT3] Heh, bad idea installing from the floppy, took a while. Yeah, it installed and is running. Now to find how to attach the CD-rom drive to the laptop... |

| To me it just sounds like when you power up the laptop and it asks you for username & password, the name you're using does not have admin rights on that laptop (or the default login does not have admin rights), and the only way to change that is to find out the admin username & password.. alternatively a complete format and reinstall of o/s could fix it. | Top |

| Gah.. Reinstall? Geeze.. All you really need is a way to boot from a floppy or preferably a CD. There are utilities that you can use to find and change the passwords for any XP accounts you have, so if you forget your password, you just run the program, it finds each account in the hidden SAM file and then you type in a new one of the same length as the original. Reboot to Windows XP, type in the account name and the new password and your in. They talked about it on the Screensavers show from TechTV, but you can find the explaination in the show notes at www.techtv.com/screensavers
Reinstall... Your funny. ;) lol | Top |

| Actually there was only one user, named "user" so it wasn't permission problems, just a corrupt file/floppy. Fixed it a while ago. Although now that I updated my video driver on it, it only runs in 16 color. Whee. |
