Our mud has has a memory leak bug for the last 2 years. The bug rears its head about once a month, and the sympom is that mob names get changed to: %N%J#ERNjk2j3 Or something similar.

Usually there's no other affect. I'm sure it's a memory leak, but tracking it down is a problem since it doesn't appear on a regular schedule.

Does anyone know of a free utility for Linux to help figure this one out. Maybe a memory profiler or something?

Suggestions apprecaited.

Have you tried valgrind? It can really help. Or gdb, and use breakpoints or watchpoints.

Valgrind looks like it might work. Thanks for the suggestion!
